The
sun is out again, as it is every day. It seems to pour out of
the sky onto everything around you. It chases the chill from the
shade and seeps into your muscles, sore from too many climbing
days. But its hard not to climb in a place like this. Huge bulging
walls of orange, grey, blue and yellow soar skywards from every
viewpoint. Starting up the route the holds feel dry and comfy.
The moves flow as if the gods of nature have been here on a route
setting course. Sinking your fingers into a jug you can rest a
little, get your breath back and shake out the lactic. Pause for
a moment and look around, take in where you are. Is it real? Can
a playground like this exist in such a beautiful place?

At
last the Euro has come to Europe making a trip abroad even easier.
Gone are the days of using up your last few Pesetas or Francs
in the duty free. Spain is one of the cheapest and easiest destinations
favoured by many for the fantastic winter climate, acres of sun-baked
limestone and incredibly chilled out atmosphere. The impressive
cliffs surrounding the tiny village of Siurana make up just one
of the climbing areas situated in the Catalyunian area of Spain
near Barcelona. It provides the perfect place to start exploring
with good facilities, scenery second to none and quality routes
in abundance. Many people begin here and never go anywhere else.
However, within close driving distance lie numerous other crags,
some of world class standard and each with its own individual
character.
