Blackwell
Halt could not be described as the premier sports climbing venue
but if you're about to make the tenuous steps from climbing on
plastic to the real think then you could do allot worse! When
this quarry was retro-bolted it provoked considerable controversy
which considering it popularity in the last few years was a little
misguided. With fifteen routes between 6a+ and 6c+ Blackwell Halt
offers the perfect setting for a family day out at the crag. The
crag is situated in a meadow and catches the sun until the late
afternoon.

Head along the A6 Bakewell - Buxton Road towards Buxton about
five kilometres from Buxton you should see s lay-by (Topley Pike)
on the right. Pull into this lay-by and take the footpath clearly
marked. This track leads down the steep hill and joins the old
railway track. Follow the railway track on the left until you
see a series of steps just before a bridge, cut back under the
bridge until you pass in front of the cottages. Follow the river
for about 30 metres beyond the pump house and then take the vague
track on the right, which leads back through a tunnel under the
railway. Continue until you see a track which leads left under
a fence, climb the secret stairs to the meadow.
Please
do not take any other route to the quarry as this could effect
the access agreement.
