Rest Days
If
you are the sort of person who likes to rest on their rest days
then you should be suitably happy here. Lying by the tent in the
grass with rock views around, or perhaps down by the river with
the distant sound of climbers in the background should appeal. Perhaps
a trip to the ice cream shop only 5 minutes walk away could be the
days exercise!
However,
if you are a person who, like myself, always has their hardest days
on their rest days then this place is perfect, the state of Oregon
is known for it's sporting activities. 20 miles away near the town
of Bend is access to the Cascade Mountain Range. Here mountain bikes
can be rented cheaply for some excellent trail riding. Or, if you
are feeling energetic try summating one of the big hills. At 3200m
'South Sister' is a pretty big challenge, not advised after any
snow. What would be advised after snow is a spot of skiing. The
local Mount Batchelor is famous for it's awesome powder.
Rest
nights should also be mentioned. Though there is often a good scene
on the campsite, those with wheels may want to check out the pubs
in Redmond or the trendy bars in Bend, also serving good food. If
you don't fancy beer, how about the swimming pool (complete with
diving board) in Redmond, or you could check out the cinema and
watch a film 3 months before any of your mates in England see it.
