What would you say is your most memorable climbing achievement?
So many things stick out though all my initial stuff is a bit hazy - leading my first E6 - the rainbow, was awesome, and the whole scene then, the way you did stuff, dosing in barns, eating crap food, getting no sleep. More lately though off the top of my head, Evolution, my first 8c was awesome, it was the introduction to hard stuff, where I suddenly realised I could crank it, before that I'd never even dreamed it was possible

The route that really stands out lately is Northern Lights, I mean it has to really, simply cos I spent 15 days on the same bit of rock. In the last few years I've not spent more than 2 days on anything except that. So you really know when you have done something after that effort, it's a mega high. Lately I have not been to any crags that really stand out as being 'the best', and that includes Mexico and China, perhaps Smiths was the last top quality place I visited. But in terms of actual climbing, Kilnsey has got to be one of the best crags in the world, you just don't think it is cos its in England. Pity we can't go there at the moment.

So far I have only on-sighted, in the true sense of the word, one route of 8b. Hardly world class these days. And believe me that stands out in the comps abroad! Last year I entered 3 internationals and got my arse kicked. Having said that the gap did not feel enormous, not like a E1 climber compared to an E7 climber, more like an E6 climber compared to an E7 climber. But to fill in that gap is not easy, it requires full dedication and lots of experience. I will compete again, knowing it is a weakness in my 'all round' climbing skills makes me want to improve, but the actual 'competition' thing I find hard to get my head round.
The UK comps are much more fun, everyone is really friendly and the pressure is off, at least it is for me - I have already won the title once so I don't need to do it again!
