This slate route just cannot be compared to any other route really, especially in terms of sport routes. Desperate to grade. I found the climbing awesome, but then that sort of stuff I really like. I've always loved slate climbing and did a lot when I was in my late teens. It suits my style, all rockovers and pap edges. - could do with a longer reach now and again though!

Most people don't know you as a traditional climber, although you repeated John Dunne's 'Big Issue'. Is the hard traditional style climbing something that interest's you and are there any test-pieces you fancy trying?
I think it's a bit annoying that I have been labelled as a total sport climber, I reckon half my time is spent trad climbing. However, I am better at sport climbing compared to trad stuff when comparing against other climbers, hence the label. I don't really care to be honest, I just do what ever I want really. I do fancy having a pop at some of the hard trad stuff, though I doubt it will be very bold, the older I get the more I value my life. Not just my life either but general health, even a bust finger is not worth a dangerous route. Having said that it is always different when you get on something, as soon as it starts to work you just get sucked in.
For me there is sport climbing and onsight trad climbing. The area in between of headpointing does not hold much attraction. I figure if you are gonna work something into submission, gear placements and all that, you might as well be on a sport route. Having said that I'm sure I will get a few head point ticksClick here to view larger image.

After completing your 8b Font. boulder problem at Stanage were you not tempted to turn your hand to bouldering for a while? Would you like to try and repeat some of the other extremely hard boulder problems around the world?
First of all, that link I did at stanage is only worth 8a+, don't know how it got around that it is 8b. Bouldering is not my major strength, and I have always judged my achievements by routes. I do love bouldering but routes are where its at. I'm gonna be in the states in a few months and near a lot of bouldering so may be I will have a crack at some of the famous stuff. I'll be in the valley for a few weeks, so I guess I have got to try 'Midnight Lightning'.
