How about that for a view. For myself, the homeland of bouldering is in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA. I had read "Masters of Rock" so many times, I knew all the words before I read them, but I was so inspired and motivated I read them again anyway. John Gill's, 'The Left & Right Eliminator', 'The Pinch' on the Mental Block. What names! One of my favourite articles of all time was of John Long's story of 'The Pinch', it just looks so good and hard.

Jerry pressing out on The Pinch.Even if you go there now, you can see the small white arrows, Gill painted on the rock all those years ago to show where the boulder problems go. I was there the first time in '82.I took the book up to the boulders and ticked the photos and problems off one by one. I can't begin to describe the thrill at 19 years of age to be able to go and do such problems. Looking back, it was like the Garden of Small white arrow marks another classic problem.Eden, except the 'bird' didn't bother with the apple and the bloke went bouldering, the bloke was Gill. It's where it all started, it's still there and guess what, if your good enough, you can tick some of the best problems in the World, and these babies have real pedigree? Just go for a day, there is not loads to do, but what there is, is quality. Typical crimp hold.

The absolute musts are, The Pinch, Left and Right Eliminator, & Ben's Arete, and of course Jerry's traverse, just kidding. Read Masters of Rock and if you get a chance, make the pilgrimage. John Gill, respect! you're the man.
Jerry.
