The
RRG is located in the state of Kentucky. There are many options
for your arrival point. Whichever you choose will depend on the
deal you can get at the time and other crags that you may wish to
visit. The closest airport is Lexington, only 60 miles away, where
you can pick up a hire car. If you fly here you will probably have
to change in New York or Chicago. It is also possible to fly to
Cincinnatti, only 2 1/2 hours drive away. Again you may have to
change flights in NY. Once you are at the crag you do not really
need a car, as there will always be people going your way. Getting
to the crag may be tricky without a car, although a bus probably
goes from Lexington to Stanton or Slade and it would be possible
to hitch-hike to Miguels.
Accommodation.
Camping
The best place to stay by far is around Miguels, a pizza restaurant,
located on KY11 not far from the town of Slade. Most of the crags
are situated along this road and as a result Miguels is the place
where all the American climbers "live". Staying here will guarantee
that you become part of the scene and enjoy your stay even more.
The camping, located behind the restaurant is ridiculously cheap
at $2 a night ($1 for a shower). This is also a very good place
to find partners if you are travelling alone. If you want to spend
a bit more there are a couple of larger campsites just up the road.
There is also free camping beside the Roadside crag, which is often
very busy especially at the weekends.
Motels
There is a fine selection of typical American motels around Miguels
and along KY11. There is no need to pre-book, just turn up.
Cabins
The cabin market is developing very rapidly and the owners of Torrent
crag are building a cabin especially for climbers that will sleep
between 6 - 8 for only $150 - $200 per week.
