accommodation
The crag of
Misja Pec is located in what is effectively a dead-end valley overlooking
the small village of Osp. There are several alternatives for
accommodation if you are wishing to climb in this area.
The
campsite
There is a campsite in the village of
Osp. If you are only going to climb, you will not need to
go anywhere else as there is a bar and restaurant, 15 minutes walk
in either direction and a garage with food and drink, 15 minutes
walk in the other.
You may therefore think that you do not need a car. A word
of warning, if you don't have a car you may go slightly mad as the
road in the valley is only passable at one end by Italians and Slovenes,
as the border guard only seem to like locals. There is not
much else in the valley apart from the 2 crags.
The campsite is well looked after and has a bar that opens sometimes.
The showers are clean and warmish. There is a barn, if you
get washed out or need to cook out of the wind. Topos can
be bought at the bar. The camp site seems secure even though
there were lots of people there. Everyone on the campsite
is a climber. The campsite tended to get busier at the weekends,
as Italians and Slovenian turned up.
The site is not as cheap as we expected considering the rest of
Slovenia. We paid about £4 each per night. The owners
are very friendly and the farmer frequently offers you the strong
tasting schnapps that he brews in the barn - he usually starts drinking
in the morning.
Hotels
There are plenty of hotels in the nearby town of Koper (10km).
They range from the very cheap one star, hostel type places to the
more expensive. Nothing is really that expensive in Slovenia.
Contact the acting tourist Office - slovenia 271 358 or see the
Lonely Planet guide for details.
Italy
It is even possible to stay in Italy if you can face crossing the
border every day. Lots of Slovenes work in Italy and do this
every day. The queues at the border during rush hour are testament
to this.
Ljubljana
Ljubljana is also worth considering although you may get tired of
the drive, about an 1 hr - 1 1/2 depending on how you drive.
They are extending the motorway all the way to the coast so the
trip will be even quicker. The stretch of motorway from Osp
to Ljubljana costs about £6-7 return.
