The true test of a well-set competition route is its ability to make the competitors fall over the entire route and not just at one section. The route setters judged the level perfectly when they set the women's semi-final route. Four women topped out, Muriel Sarkany, Elena Ovchinnikova, Martina Cufar and Liv Sansoz.

Sundays final routes had been tweaked during the night by the route setters having observed how well the competitors had performed on the Saturday. The final routes had been set to optimise the large amounts of climbing area available on this impressive wall nick named 'Darth Maul' because of its striking paint job. Eight women attempted the final route; Liv looked steady until falling off only a few moves from the top. Sarkany was beaten into second place by just a few centimetres; third place had to be decided on time because both Elena Ovchinnikova and Marietta Uhden reached the same high point.

Yuji looked fired up for the final route, rumours were going round the circuit that this would the last competition that he would enter, so how better to finish your carrier than as World Champion. The final route worked its way diagonally through the most steepest sections of the wall requiring the competitor to move throw 360 degrees before heading onto the sloping traverse of the Freeform section and finishing on the far right belay. This route would test even the strongest competitor. Most climbers reached the roof section but were unable to progress up onto the 'Darth Maul' section. Bernardino Lagni an unknown climber from Italy made it through the tricky section, despite looking as though he would fall at any moment. Lagni had fallen high on the head wall within site of the finishing hold and belay could Yuji beat the accountant?

When Yuji appeared from the transition area the crowd seemed to assume that it was inevitable that he would win. Yuji looked steady through the first section chalking on moves that others had struggled on. Lagni watch on from the sideline as Yuji crossed onto the headwall. The crowd was shouting words of encouragement as Yuji approached Lagni's high point, could he top out? Suddenly his foot slipped off a smear and that was it Yuji's attempt was over just short of Lagni's high point. An accountant has won the World Championship whatever next!!
