This year we’ve organized a bigger
and better art and photography exhibition. Take a tour along the top
balcony, and end up in the relaxing concourse bar, accompanied all
the way by some stunning exhibits. There’s photography from
some of the best outdoor and action photographers in the UK, including
Gordon Stainforth, Carl Ryan, Dave Simmonite,
John Beatty, Alistair Lee, and Ian Parnell.
And there’s plenty of art too. Shelly Hocknell will be
displaying some of her vibrant images of rock climbing, Ginger
Cain is showing a fantastic collection of watercolours, and Kit
Surrey is bringing some great large-scale charcoals of the Cornish
coast.
Many of the items are for sale,
and the artists and photographers will be around all weekend –
so don’t be afraid to ask them about any of their work. And
if at the end of your tour around the showcase you feel suitably inspired,
then why not go along to our “Freedom Mural”. Here you
can try your own artistic hand and extend our mural – and maybe
be included in the new “Freedom Tomorrow” book.
ACT Art &
Photography Competition
To celebrate the
launch of ACT and the International Year of the Mountains, the BMC
is producing a great new coffee table book – “Freedom
Tomorrow”. Featuring a diverse mix of work from writers, photographers,
and artists, this promises to be an inspiring start to 2002. And
what’s even better, is that everyone gets the chance to contribute.
So if you’ve ever fancied seeing your work on the front cover
of a book – this is your chance!
Freedom Tomorrow!
Freedom Tomorrow will highlight the importance of good practice
and sustainable use of the environment to protect our freedom to
enjoy the outdoors. To enter the competition simply send in a photograph
or piece of art that represents your vision and enjoyment of the
natural environment in England, Wales, Scotland or Ireland.
It could be a stunning action shot, a relaxing watercolour landscape,
or an abstract of tree bark – it’s a broad theme. The
competition has four categories: photography, art, Junior photography
(16 or younger) and Junior art (16 or younger). So don't delay,
select your entry and send it in to the BMC office straight away.
